Britain is made up of over 6,000 islands and surprisingly 267 of these are inhabited.  Acclaimed film actress Alison Steadman OBE has always been fascinated with idyllic island life. In this series she’ll celebrate the wild and remote beauty that’s right under our noses and meet the people who call these hidden jewels their home.

In our first episode Alison travels to the windswept and rugged Scottish Inner Hebrides, where she explores the little known and sparsely populated islands of Gigha, Jura, Colonsay and Oronsay. In episode two Alison ventures to the Channel Islands where she winds her way from the southern island of Jersey up to Alderney in the north via Sark. In the final episode she's off to the tropical paradise of the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago off the Cornish coast that has some of the most spectacular un-spoilt beaches in the whole of Europe. She's here to explore tiny “Off Islands” of Tresco, Bryher, St Martins and St Agnes.
