In remotest Siberia a man claiming to be the Son of God – the reincarnation of Jesus Christ - has gathered thousands of followers around him.  Director George Carey sets off on an extraordinary journey to try to find out where this reincarnation of Jesus came from and why so many well educated and middle class Russians have given up their old lives to follow him into the wilderness. George discovers that Sergei Torop – the Jesus of Siberia – is an ex-beat cop whose mission to save mankind began in 1991 when the Soviet Union under Mikhail Gorbachev was falling apart. At the end of his journey George finally gets to meet the man himself and asks him why we should believe he is the Son of God.   A deeply revealing film about religion and politics in contemporary Russia.
